Meta Ads vs Google Ads in Pakistan: Which Should You Start With?

Published 2026-09-09  ·  8 min read  ·  by the Eshtyhar team

Both platforms work. They just do different jobs, and picking the wrong one first is the most common way a small budget gets wasted in Pakistan.

The one difference that decides everything

Google Ads catches demand that already exists. Somebody types "root canal in Lahore" or "wedding photographer Islamabad", and you appear. They were already looking. You are competing for a decision that has already been made.

Meta Ads — Facebook and Instagram — creates demand. Nobody opens Instagram to buy your product. Your ad interrupts them, and the creative has to be good enough to make them want something they were not thinking about ninety seconds ago.

Everything else about choosing between the two follows from that single distinction.

Start with Google Ads if…

The catch: Google Ads punishes sloppiness. If you send search traffic to a generic homepage, you pay full price for clicks that bounce. Every campaign needs a landing page about that exact service in that exact city — the same principle behind our industry and city pages.

Start with Meta Ads if…

The sequence that works for most Pakistani businesses

  1. Get tracking right before you spend a rupee. Meta Pixel plus the Conversions API, Google Ads conversion tracking, and a WhatsApp click event. Untracked spend is not marketing, it is donation.
  2. Run whichever platform matches the demand you have. If people search for it, Google first. If they do not, Meta first. Do not split a small budget across both — you will get two sets of data too thin to learn from.
  3. Give it enough runway to be readable. Roughly thirty to fifty conversions before you judge a campaign. Below that, you are reading noise and making expensive decisions from it.
  4. Add the second platform once the first is profitable. Usually that means layering Meta retargeting under Google search, or Google search under Meta prospecting.
  5. Retarget everything. Retargeting is almost always the cheapest conversions you will buy on either platform, because you are talking to people who already raised a hand.

The mistake we see most often: a business spends for six weeks, gets some leads, and cannot say which ad, which audience or which keyword produced them — because everything ran to one WhatsApp number with no tracking. Set that up first and the platform choice becomes a data question instead of an argument.

What to spend on before you spend on ads

Both platforms multiply whatever you already have. If the landing page is slow, the offer is vague, or nobody answers WhatsApp within an hour, ads will simply make those problems more expensive.

Before turning on either platform, make sure that:

So which one?

If your customers are searching for your service by name, start with Google Ads and put every campaign on a matching landing page. If your product sells on a photo and nobody is searching for it yet, start with Meta and budget for fresh creative every two weeks. Then, once one channel is reliably profitable, add the other — not before.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper in Pakistan, Google Ads or Meta Ads?

Meta almost always has a lower cost per click, and Google almost always has a higher conversion rate. The number that matters is cost per qualified lead, not cost per click. A more expensive click from someone actively searching frequently produces cheaper leads than many cheap clicks from people who were only scrolling.

Can I run both platforms at the same time with a small budget?

It is usually a mistake early on. Splitting a small budget across two platforms produces two data sets too small to learn from, so you end up guessing on both. Concentrate on the platform that matches your demand until it is consistently profitable, then expand.

How long before I know whether a campaign works?

Plan on roughly thirty to fifty conversions before judging. On Google search that can take days; on Meta prospecting it usually takes one to two weeks. Turning campaigns off after three days is the fastest way to burn budget and learn nothing.

Do ads help my SEO rankings?

Not directly. Paid clicks are not a ranking factor. Indirectly they help a great deal, though: ads reveal which keywords and messages actually convert, and you can then build your SEO content around the terms you already know produce customers.

What is the most common reason ad campaigns fail in Pakistan?

Slow lead response. Businesses generate enquiries on WhatsApp and reply hours later, by which time the customer has messaged three competitors. The second most common reason is sending paid traffic to a generic homepage instead of a page about the specific thing that was advertised.
